Stage presence (absence?) in electronic music

Invisible protagonists with minds of their own - the subject of a new conference paper being presented by Jonathan Pitkin later this month

The fifth International Music on Stage Conference takes place at Rose Bruford College, Kent, on 18-19th October this year. Amongst the contributions will be a paper entitled 'Who’s making all that noise? Stage presence (and absence) in music for electronically-controlled sound sources', in which Jonathan Pitkin will draw upon examples from amongst his own recent and ongoing compositional projects to explain how electronic music might still be able to create a sense of being performed by someone (or something), despite no protagonists being visible on stage. Papers from the conference will be published in a book in 2016.
