Two substantial new piano works to receive their first performances in May
*
This May sees the first performance of two contrasting new works for piano. Vitesses is a two-movement piece exploring ideas of acceleration, momentum and continuity; Con Spirito is a duo (but sometimes more like a competition) for live pianist and Yamaha Disklavier - a modern, computer-controlled equivalent of the player piano, capable of executing passages of impossible speed and complexity with apparent ease.
Con Spirito will be performed by Kerry Yong as part of the Royal College of Music's Music and Ideas series, at 7pm on May 3rd in the RCM Concert Hall.
Vitesses will be performed by Kan Tomita in the Recital Hall, Royal College of Music, at 7pm on May 15th, alongside a programme of ensemble works presented by Contemporary Consort.
