High Time was written for Peter and Alice Neal, as a celebratory recessional for their wedding in 2005. The title, a deliberate mistranslation of the German ‘hochzeit’, alludes to the piece’s speed, its tendency to exploit the instrument’s higher register, and the overall importance of rhythm in creating the intended mood of exuberance and dynamism.
